2022 Toyota Dream Car USA Art Contest for Kids 4-15

Artworks Accepted November 1 thru January 31

Get your kids’ creative engines started! Unpack the art supplies, unbuckle imaginations, and kickstart the freewheeling designs of what your kids think cars should look like in the future. Then, enter their artworks in the FY22 Toyota Dream Car USA Art Contest. Submissions created by youth, ages 4-15, will be accepted online or by mail during November 1, 2021 through January 31, 2022.

Each year, a total of nine U.S. winners are selected: the top three in each of the three age categories (4-7 years old; 8-11 years old; and 12-15 years old). Judging based on three criteria: execution, uniqueness, and artistry of concept. Each artwork submission consists of a drawing by an eligible youth, accompanied by a completed entry form signed by a parent or legal guardian (multiple submissions accepted, but each drawing must be accompanied by a separate entry form).

NEW THIS YEAR: Official rules remain the same with two exceptions: (1) Kids can create an original drawing by hand using digital tools in addition to crayons, colored pencils, ink pens, markers, or paint (acrylic or watercolor); and (2) entry forms can be submitted online or by mail. Acceptable digital artwork formats for the children’s art contest include GIF, JPG, JPEG, and PDF.

Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan held the first worldwide contest in 2004. Nearly 90 countries now participate each year under the same rules but with varying artwork submission periods. 2022 fiscal year marks the 12th year this youth art contest has been presented in the United States. The annual kids’ art contest accepts artwork submitted by parents or legal guardians of children between four (4) and fifteen (15) years of age who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia.

Art Guidelines

Artworks must be original drawings on paper or created using computer tools. For drawings on paper, the color, material and shape of the paper can be chosen freely but should not be thicker than 5mm or the Artwork will be disqualified. Recommended paper size is 11 x 17 inches, but any sizes within 15.7 to 21.7 inches may be used. Artworks can be created using artistic medium such as color pencils, markers, crayons, or paint (watercolors, acrylic, etc.). Digital Artworks can also be submitted including GIFs, PDFs, JPGs, and JPEGs, created using digital tools on a computer or app (printed copies on paper will be requested if Artwork is selected for an award). Collage or cutout pictures are allowed as part of simple drawings, but any materials or techniques that require special care in handling are not allowed. See Official Rules for complete requirements and guidelines.

Does the Artwork express the youth’s dream or design for mobility in the future? Does the Artwork seem to make the youth’s dream come true? Does the artwork stimulate sympathy, resonance, and/or emotion for the viewer?

Is the theme of the Artwork is from the youth’s age-appropriate point of view? Is the design set apart from winning designs of past years?

The Artwork’s design will be rated by composition, coloring, and technique.
